Young Musicians

                                              Young Musicians

Our children’s music program at Taylorville United Methodist Church is called Young Musicians. The group meets on Wednesdays at 5:45-6:30 P.M. immediately before Sonshine Kids. We invite all children ages 4 years through 5th grade to participate. While we do teach musical skills and concepts, the most important thing we do is to instill a love of singing about our God and His son Jesus!

Young Musicians prepare music for both 9:00 and 11:00 A.M. services. Recent musicals from  the “Bible Song Sing-A-Long” series have been centered on learning scripture through song. Our children even memorized the Books of the New Testament with a song! The group often joins the Sanctuary Choir for special anthems and Easter and Christmas cantatas.

Young Musicians are taught music using a variety of pedagogies including Orff, Kodaly, and solfege. Improving singing skills and developing confidence as a singer are major components of the program. Learning sign language and playing hand bells are included in our activities.

A room full of children always calls for extra supervision! Donna Bowman assists Regina Noland each Wednesday during YM and then escorts the children to SonShine Kids. Mary Ann Smith and teen helpers Madison Kendrick, Taylor Burge, and Duncan Smith are always ready to help when needed.

If you have children who would like to participate in Young Musicians and/or would like to assist contact Regina Noland by phone, text, or email at 205-242-7485 or
